As part of the cooperation between the Association of Former MEPs (EP_FMA) and the Association of Former Canadian Parliamentarians (CAFP), a special visit to Rome, Florence, and Siena has been arranged for the latter from April 1 to 13, 2025.
The two delegations, chaired respectively by the Hon. Monica Baldi and the Hon. Leo Duguay, participated in numerous meetings, conferences, and seminars.
The highlight of the Italian journey was the “PEACE IN ART” event, organized by Ars Pace at the historic Fonterutoli Castle, held on Thursday, April 10th at 4:00 PM, thanks to the hospitality of the Marquises Mazzei. This was the site where several peace agreements were signed between the powerful dioceses of Siena, Fiesole, and Arezzo, and where the long-standing dispute between Florence and Siena over the borders of the Chianti region was finally put to an end.
A special moment rich in culture, peace, emotion, and beauty was experienced with the performance of painter Elisabetta Rogai, who created a painting using her exclusive EnoArte@ technique using the estate’s wine, while tasting it, in a magical immersion among vineyards that preserve the centuries-old knowledge of winemaking tradition.
The musical notes performed on the flute by Andrea Ceccomori, Secretary of Ars Pace, completed the event.
The sixteen members of the Canadian delegation were warmly welcomed by Marquis Francesco Mazzei and Ars Pace, represented by President Enrique Barón Crespo, Vice President Monica Baldi, and Treasurer Alessandro Vinattieri.
Art as an instrument of Peace is the foundation of Diplomacy: the soft power that enables dialogue based on lasting international relations. In this unique historical moment, many transformations are taking place, with new trade dynamics and proposals to impose tariffs that penalize our products, especially in the agri-food sector, leading to serious consequences for the excellence of our high-quality production chain. This could lead to serious conflicts, unlike open markets, like the Canadian one, which instead generate peace.
