Ars Pace held the “Concert for Peace” in the evocative Basilica of San Miniato al Monte in Florence on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at 7:00 PM, thanks to the generous hospitality of Abbot Dom Bernardo Gianni, who delivered the opening greetings along with Ars Pace Vice President Monica Baldi.
The unique concert was directed and promoted by flutist Andrea Ceccomori, Co-founder and Secretary of Ars Pace, who performed accompanied by Maria Chiara Fiorucci on the harp and Ermanno Vallini on the cello. Music by Ceccomori was performed, including the famous “Hymn to Peace” (composed especially for Ars Pace); classical pieces by Fauré and Ravel; and contemporary pieces by Arvo Part, Max Richter, Vladimir Martynov, and others. This music was conceived according to a principle of dialogue and intimacy, drawing on Franciscan foundations and the poetics of a musician inspired and enlightened by the cause of peace.
Vice President Baldi stated: “The Schuman Declaration, which laid the foundation for the construction of a United Europe, began by stating that ‘World peace can only be safeguarded through creative efforts proportionate to the dangers that threaten it.’ Today, as conflicts and crises continue throughout the world, we hope that the creative efforts of art, and especially music, will contribute, even intimately, to the rediscovery of peace and serenity.”
The event was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Ars Pace Councillor Alessandro Vinattieri.
During the evening, donations were made to the association “Voa Voa! Onlus – Amici di Sofia,” which provides social and health care, psychological, legal, and financial support to families with children affected by rare neurodegenerative diseases diagnosed in childhood. The association was affectionately represented by President Guido De Barros and Vice President Caterina Ceccuti.
